Jeanne Simmons

Jeanne is delighted to play flute for Chatterbox Audio Theatre. It is a privilege to share in the creative and collaborative process with such talented folks!

Having begun her music studies on the piano early in life, and playing trumpet, then French horn in her school bands, it wasn’t until her junior year of high school that she discovered an interest in playing the flute. Determined to make up for lost time, Jeanne applied her musical background and majored in flute performance and received her BM degree from Memphis State University.

Music has always been an important and integral part of Jeanne's life, and she has enjoyed performing in various and assorted ensembles including harp, guitar, piano, flute duos, trios, quartets and more. Along with David, her husband of 29 years, she has experienced the joy of raising three incredible children. Through the years she has enjoyed playing music in local theatres including Theatre Memphis, Harrell Theatre, Desoto Family Theatre, Circuit Playhouse, the Orpheum Theatre, and numerous high school productions, as well as many local churches.

She is most proud of her CD recording of “Sacred Impressions” with her dear departed harpist friend, Mary Abbay Gourley.

In 2000, Jeanne began attending the Boxwood summer workshop in Lunenberg, N.S. to study traditional flute music. This ignited a new passion of playing keyless wooden flute and the Irish whistle while in community with others. It is also this interest of playing music in a community that brought Jeanne to come to love and appreciate musical theater.

Jeanne enjoys teaching private flute and whistle lessons, as well as continuing to play for weddings, church services, and special events in the Mid-South.
