Joy Bishop

Joy Bishop

Joy has always enjoyed expressing her creative side, including having the privilege of community theater experience (although she says she was a "late bloomer -- on the downhill side of middle age!"). Her roles included Martha in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf at TheatreWorks and Grandma Kurnitz in Lost in Yonkers at Theatre Memphis, as well as other smaller roles. She feels grateful to have worked with such great directors as Jo Malin, Cookie Ewing, and Hal Harmon, not to mention actors like Janie Paris, Ron Gephart, and Bill Baker.

After retiring a few years ago, Joy began to focus on writing poetry, short stories, and essays. Her submissions to Chatterbox were her first attempts at any kind of script writing and she found a whole new genre to love! In addition, she recently completed an item that's been on her bucket list for a long time: performing stand-up comedy at an open mic forum at a local comedy club! She was amazed and elated by the reception she received! Joy is also attending Indie film acting classes headed by Forrest Pruitt. So far, she has been in three short films and hopes to do more.

Joy is delighted to be part of the Chatterbox cast, where she just wrapped up her first role as one of the Spoon River Anthology characters. She is excited that another script of hers is scheduled for production and anticipates writing more scripts, as well as auditioning for more parts, in the future.

Joy is thrilled to be part of the Chatterbox family!
