Reginald C. Brown

Reginald is an Actor, Director, and Educator. He is a member of Actors Equity Association and is a Screen Actors Guild eligible candidate. Reginald was a Co-Founder and Co-Artistic Director of Ensemble Theatre Company of Newark, NJ from 1981-1998. Its mission was to provide professional theatre for the community focusing on telling stories associated with the African-American experience.

As an actor, Reginald is currently touring his one-man performance entitled Performing Richard Wright, in which he portrays Mr. Wright in an autobiographical sketch entitled The Ethics of Living Jim Crow. He also dramatizes two of Mr. Wright's short stories, "The Man Who Saw the Flood" and "Down by the Riverside." In the summer of 2008, Reginald was invited to perform an excerpt from this piece in Paris, France for The Richard Wright Centennial Conference at the American University of Paris. The piece had its US premiere in October 2008 in Memphis, TN as a part of the University of Memphis Richard Wright Centennial Celebration. It was Reginald's great joy to perform for members of the Wright family, including his daughter, Julia.

Reginald is a 2008 Ostrander Award co-winner for the best performance by an actor in a college production for his portrayals of Napoleon and Old Major in Animal Farm at the University of Memphis. Reginald has many regional theatre, film and television performance credits. His most recent directing credits include A Raisin in the Sun for Germantown Community Theatre of Germantown, TN, Dracula for Hattiloo Theatre, The Laramie Project for the University of Memphis, and The Story for Playhouse on the Square’s POTS@TheWorks series in Memphis, TN.
